Aesthetics: We don’t realise often but our teeth play a very important role in our facial structure, its form, shape and overall aesthetics of the individual. Missing teeth can give a sunken or drooping facial structure, which can be corrected by dentures.
Speech: Our teeth, along with the tongue and palate, play a crucial role in speech. Many syllables we pronounce require teeth to be present. But, in a person with missing teeth, speech is affected. Dentures, therefore, help restore speech and enable them to pronounce words that contain sibilants and fricatives.
Self-esteem and confidence: Our smile is intricately linked with our self-esteem. Individuals who have beautiful smiles are often more confident and have high self-esteem. While losing a tooth or all your teeth can impact your self-esteem, dentures can help boost confidence and restore your self-esteem.

The dentures should be cleaned using a denture cleaning brush and denture cleaning powder /tablets .However, the prosthesis should not be cleaned using any chemical acid cleaners.
The patient is advised to avoid nightwear of the prosthesis. The denture should be stored in water or any dilute cleansing solution at night. If the patient wears the denture during sleep, the mucosa does not have any rest to improve its blood supply.
This may lead to bone resorption and mucosal degeneration. However, in patients with teeth clenching habit, nightwear may be advised.
An Immediate denture is a removable denture that is constructed for insertion immediately following the removal of natural teeth.
Both Dentures and Dental Implants are good options to replace missing teeth.
Dentures are false teeth, which are removable. They are painless, easy and relatively inexpensive. Dentures also mimic natural teeth quite well. They can also restore the mastication and speech of the patient. Dentures are custom-made in a dental laboratory from impressions taken of mouth. It will take a minimum of 4 – 5 visits (about 3-6 weeks) for complete denture construction.
On the other hand, Dental Implants consist of titanium screws integrated into the jawbone. An abutment connector then connects this screw and crown. Since implants fuse to the jawbone, they provide stable support for artificial teeth. Unlike dentures, they won’t slip or shift in your mouth while eating and speaking.
Another advantage of implants is that no adjacent teeth need to be prepared or ground down to hold new replacement tooth/teeth in place. Also, to receive implants, one needs to have healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant.
Good oral hygiene and regular dental visits are paramount to the long-term success of dental implants. However, Implants are more expensive than dentures. The process of getting a dental implant can take several months to com
